The genetic profiles oj the domestic cat populations oj Cape Town and Pretoria have been determined. That jor the Cape Town population satisfies two testsjor panmixia, whereas the Pretoria population meets one oj two such criteria. The relative ajfinities ojeach locality with variolls populations in England, the Netherlands and the New World are discussed with rejerence to the historical im migration hypothesis.
